Elderly Challenge- Observation 4

This time I asked some people who worked with the elderly about the challenges the elderly face. The main answer I was give was that they were lonely and that they did not want to be dependent upon their loved ones. Mobility was also another issue they pointed out, along with financial problems. Sry about there being no pictures again. I couldn't get permission to take photos of the elderly.

Understanding the 'Elderly Challenge'

1) The CAI recommends senior-oriented housing options like 1)changing land leases and reverse mortgages to allow seniors to get cheaper housing and receive income 2)a barrier-less society allowing old people to move about easily, 3)all-around and affordable health care to allow old people to save money and stay healthy and lastly, 4)active lifestyles to keep seniors active and overall, healthy.
2) The CAI recommends the retrofitting of infrastructure with both normal features and elderly-friendly features to allow all people and not just the elderly to be able to traverse the area easily and without boundaries.
3) We can implement a Family Physician centered approach to health care treatment for the elderly and have Family Physicians provide the primary care for end-of-life care, no matter if it be in the elderly's own homes or nursing homes.
4) As an SST student, I can volunteer to help out at old-folk homes. I can help to organise an old-folk exercise day for old people to do exercises suited for them to keep them fit and healthy. I can help out old people that I see when they are having trouble moving around.

Elderly Challenge- Observation 3

Hello once again. This time, I saw another old man. Near my house there is a bus stop next to a few blocks. Connecting this bust stop to the 2 blocks is a covered inclined walkway. This walkway is inclined at about 30 degrees. I was sitting at the bus stop waiting then I saw this old man. He was using a walking aid and gripping the handlebars at the sides of the covered walkway. He slowly made his way down the walkway. Im surprised because he was wearing no shirt. Anyway I couldn't take any form of digital media because I didn't have my camera with me and my handphone had no battery.
Next week I'll probably post an interview with my aunt, who works with the elderly.

Elderly Challenge- Observation 2

This week I saw an old man at the void deck, supported by his maid. He was walking to the lift and was using a walking aid to help him. I observed that even with the support from the maid and his walking aid, he still covered the ground at about 4m/min. Isn't it like, against the law to take photos of people w/o their permission?

Elderly challenge- Observation 1

Its unfortunate, that for this entire week I have been sick and have not had a chance to go out and observe the elderly. Unfortunatly there are also no elderly people I have been able to observe in the vicinity of my house and as such, I do not have any obervations for this week.
